Overview

Mount Fuji (富士山, Fujisan), standing proudly at 3,776 meters, is Japan’s highest and most iconic mountain. With its nearly perfect, symmetrical cone shape, this active volcano has long been revered as a sacred symbol and has inspired countless artists and travelers through the centuries. Located on the border of Yamanashi and Shizuoka prefectures, Mount Fuji can often be seen from Tokyo and Yokohama on clear days.

One of the easiest ways to glimpse Mount Fuji is aboard the Tokaido Shinkansen between Tokyo and Osaka, where passengers enjoy the best view near Shin-Fuji Station, about 40–45 minutes after departure. However, clear views depend on weather—clouds often veil the peak, especially in summer. The best visibility occurs during colder months or early morning and evening.

For a more immersive experience, visit the Fuji Five Lakes (Fujigoko) region or Hakone, both offering scenic views, hot springs, and nature escapes. Mount Fuji’s climbing season runs from July to August.
